Review
This was one of the most original dystopians I have ever read! Unlike most dystopians there was not a government so to speak but an organization called The Initiative that is mysterious and obviously up to something sinister. In this world the death rate is higher than the birth rate and of course most of the population is poor and starving.
Meadow was a great character to read about she is brave and loyal but sometimes hot headed and impulsive which is greatly balanced by Zephyr's cool calm and mostly collected attitude! Meadows love for her brother and sister is extremely relateable for me my brothers are my world and I admired Meadow so much for just wanting to make sure her sister survived every single day! Meadow is such a badass female and quite a few times outshines zephyr and saves his ass which is nice in YA which has an abundance of damsels in distress. There is a bit of insta-love which I hated! I don't mind insta-love done right but this was far from it unfortunately (minus .5 stars).
The twists (yes that is plural) I did not see coming at all and I loved it!! I have a talent for guessing twists and endings so when an author really gets me it is so refreshing!! The writing style and pace of this book were perfection there was a small plot hole that was not explained well for me (minus .5 stars) but I may have just missed the answer I was looking for or it could be easily further explained in book two so no big deal!
