Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.
Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
Review
Celaena was an amazing character to read about she is bad ass but still a girly girl which you never see! The other characters have so much personality the perspectives were very Celaena centric which was OK but I would have loved to read from the other characters perspective more often!
The plot was so exciting and I am dying to know what happens to the characters next I have a feeling this series is going to rip my heart out but I will love every second of it!
I met for beautiful descriptive writing and this book had so much of it! I could visualize the people, the places, the clothes and everything else so perfectly!!
What I didn't love:
The love triangle while very subtle had Celaena falling for someone I did not want her to be with at all!!!! I cn't say much more because of spoilers but I really hope this whole love triangle thing gets sorted out in book two and she ends up with who I want her to be with!
