Title: The Last Wish Author:Andrezej Sapkowskih Genre: Adult Fantasy Series: The Last Wish #1 Published: Polish: 1993 English: 2007 Pages: Paper Back, 359 Source: Bought from Goodwill Rating: 4/5 Stars My fiancee has been begging me to read this book for ages! He told me it was a fantasy novel that is comprised of a bunch of short stories all about the same main character The Witcher ! I finally caved and picked it up! As I read the first (which has some adult content) and second story I really began to get pulled into the world of The Witcher! Unlike other fantasy novels this is not based on Tolkien or a world similar to it, it is solely a creation of Sapkowski's imagination and you can tell! I would have like there to be more descriptions of some of the "monsters" in this world especially one I have never heard of before! "There is a grain of truth in every fairy tale," -The Last Wish The second story is where it began to get really good, probably because I realized that some of the stories are fairy tale retellings! Which had me so excited!! The second story was really focused on Beauty and the Beast while the rest of the book just had some fairy tale themes or specific aspects. For example, a story similar to snow white is talked about by the characters but is not an actual story in the book! Also, there were many instances where generic morals and lessons from fairy tales were mentioned in this book. Below is an example of Peter Pan. But there was also The Golden Rule, The Princess and The Pea, The Frog Prince, True Loves Kiss breaking magical spells and a Genie in a bottle! “A mother, you son-of-a-bitch, is sacred!” - The Last Wish (Peter Pan) Over all I really really enjoyed this book, the only read I have given it a 4 star rating instead of 5 was because the set up of the short stories was a bit confusing and I wanted more to each story a couple of these could have been added to and made into a novel by themselves! They say silence is golden. Maybe it is, although I'm not sure it's worth that much. It has its price certainly; you have to pay for it.”
