“But I can’t shake the feeling that, while they stand with me, there’s no one beside me. Even with an army at my back, I am still alone.”
Review
Although during these rescue missions Mare and her group ticked me off!!!! They made stupid decisions and used their powers in the open just waiting to be captured! The first rescue only a few people went, but Mare stayed behind obviously because she is highly wanted and would be easily captured by the princes guard and army, that decision was sound, but on the very next rescue NO ONE said anything about Mare no going and what happens?? The are spotted and something bad happens!! This is not the last stupid mistake the group makes and it was a very frustrating for the entirety of the middle of the book!
Something that really confused me was the amount of electricity and modern technology that existed. This is obviously future dystopia America, but the first book had very, very little technology and now the second book has it all over the place! The ending was a complete and total cop out!! I saw it coming a mile away it was not exciting and it did not leave me wanting more!
I wish I had more to say but overall I was just frustrated with most of this book! It is incredible hard to like a book and enjoy reading it when the main characters are so unlikable! Mare is a liar, she keeps things from Cal, she is obsessive and selfish and I don't really have good things to say about Cal either. Usually I do not mind some dark and twisty characters but there was no growth and it wasn't enjoyable to read.
