My own opinion being that I enjoyed this book. Quite a lot actually. Now please hear me out before sending a twitter mob of hate after me. I get why a certain blogger kicked up a fuss over this book. The Shotet group/tribe/continent are considered a harsh tongued and violent group of people. Because there were several main players in this group who were black, this book has been slated for misrepresentation.
Seeing a character in severe pain, who has to rely on painkillers that can make her spacey is something I relate to in a huge way. I loved this character and her complexities. She is an epic character of colour. I think Roth tried to grow when writing this book, she tried to make it diverse, but maybe she did fail in some places, though not in my opinion.
The book itself flows wonderfully and Roth has created another interestingly set book with really thought out concepts and world-building. It’s different from most run-of-the-mill Sci-Fi/Fantasy books, and I really enjoyed my reading experience.
