This Disney so of course there was a bit of instalove between Jasmin and Aladdin but I think it was done much better than the movie it moved a bit slower but not much and the darker tone of the book added more depth to the relationship! Speaking of darker tone this book had a bunch of it I can't go to into detail because of spoilers but the characters deal with dark magic, death, and war in my opinion that made the story so much better! This was definitely young adult but it was much more mature than the Disney movie version.
Jasmin was such an awesome character because Jafar summons the genie and not Aladdin she takes center stage during most of the book and really steps up and becomes the leader Agrabah needs her to be.In the very beginning we get back story on Aladdins childhood and we find out how he became a street rat which I really enjoyed, we also get to see a lot about the other street rats in Agrabah and they move the story along nicely and add so much to the plot!!
