Peter quickly learns that the sharks near his Florida home are being mysteriously killed off. They need his help. Thrust into a scary but exciting adventure, both above- and below-water, Peter is distressed to learn that his dad, a chef, is connected to the crime—being blackmailed by his boss to cook up illegal shark-fin soup. Peter sets himself to the daunting task of saving both the sharks and his father, but to do so, he must rely on the very bullies who have tormented him.
Other than that I thought this book was well researched when it came to sharks, Florida, and biology. I have basic knowledge on these subjects but the author was able to teach me things without the story feeling like a textbook! Peter learns he can talk to sharks and I loved how each shark had their own personality and role in the story! The author also had a great way of portraying the Tampa Bay area and how beautiful and ecologically diverse it is!
Peter and his family were funny and interesting! This story has a wonderful message of friendship and doing what's right which makes it perfect for any middle school aged child. The pacing of Silencing Sharks makes it so easy to read I never felt bored or confused and I read the entire book in one sitting!
