The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.
“Find me a cure for these tears, I'd really like to exhale for the first time in my life.”
“But being around so much love has managed to thaw my frozen parts into something human. I feel human.
Like maybe I could be part of this world. Like maybe I don't have to be a monster. Maybe I'm not a monster. Maybe things can change.”
Review
Speaking of the romance. . . I have heard so many thing about this series mostly about how much everyone LOVES Warner. . . WTF is the deal because in this first book he is the villian and he is SUPER bad. Now I can see how some "bad" characters can go good but there is no coming back from forcing Juliette to torture a child in order to save the baby's life . . . ?? I will have to gladly read the rest of the series to find out!
A Warning for the younger reader: Shatter Me is seeeeeexy!!! I love me so good romance scenes but there were several parts that I think were just to mature for a YA novel.
I actually listened to this on audiobook and it was terrific. The voice actor was perfect and there was a sound effect included that really made you feel this book. It is written like a journal, Juliette's journal and there are lots of moments when she writes something and crosses it out and in the audiobook they include this pen scratching paper sound effect as if she is crossing out the previous line. I was really confused at first but I own a physical copy so I thumbed through it and sure enough myltiple lines have crosses through them.
