“If a hiker gets lost in the mountains, people will coordinate a search. If a train crashes, people will line up to give blood. If an earthquake levels a city, people all over the world will send emergency supplies. This is so fundamentally human that it's found in every culture without exception. Yes, there are assholes who just don't care, but they're massively outnumbered by the people who do.”
“Problem is (follow me closely here, the science is pretty complicated), if I cut a hole in the Hab, the air won't stay inside anymore.”
Review
Mark is funny!! Really funny! Some of the jokes went over my head because I maybe too young or I just don't know sciency stuff but when I got the jokes I laughed. . . a lot!!
I love the idea that every single person on Earth got together just to ensure that one mans life was saved
The ingenuity that Mark showed through so many impossible events was mind blowing!! Even if I were an engineer I'd be dead in less than a day!! I mean the guy grew plants on Mars for goodness sakes!!
What I didn't like:
This book was extremely redundant. . . I guess it makes sense for this type of book. Everyday he had to do certain things to survive and he did this for over 400 days so that is a lot of the same monotonous work!
It was cool that all the science stuff is actually all fact checked and correct but I found myself skipping over a lot of the parts where that math was explained because I wouldn't get it anyway and it was just a waste of time to read. . .
