Synopsis
Five powers that bind.
One curse to lock the horror away.
One attic to keep the monsters at bay.
After the storm of the century rips apart New Orleans, sixteen-year-old Adele Le Moyne wants nothing more than her now silent city to return to normal. But with home resembling a war zone, a parish-wide curfew, and mysterious new faces lurking in the abandoned French Quarter, normal needs a new definition.
As the city murder rate soars, Adele finds herself tangled in a web of magic that weaves back to her own ancestors. Caught in a hurricane of myths and monsters, who can she trust when everyone has a secret and keeping them can mean life or death? Unless . . . you’re immortal.
Review
This book starts with our protagonist Adele returning to New Orleans after 'The Storm' which was basically Katrina. Arden does a wonderful job in setting a Hurricane ruined New Orleans, I've even spoke with a close friend of mine who lives in a parish close to New Orleans, who was there for Katrina and the more recent floods as well and she's mentioned that the setting was pretty realistic. The book then loosely follows the Casket Girls legend (Which was also mentioned on The Originals!)
The plot is wonderful, It took me several days to read this book because I was genuinely enjoying it... and maybe because I kept making photo sets because I was a bit obsessed...
There are creatures of the night and some magical happenings in this book, but I dare not spoil you! Well written, suspenseful, dark and sinister! I got a fair few creepy horror vibes!
